IGCSE:ART & DESIGN (0400)


The IGCSE Art and Design syllabus aims to encourage a personal response by stimulating, imagination, sensitivity, conceptual thinking, powers of observation and analytical ability. Students gain confidence and enthusiasm as they develop technical skills in two and three dimensional form and composition, and are able to solve problems in visual and tactile forms.



Students also learn how to develop ideas from initial attempts to final solutions. An ideal foundation for further study, IGCSE Art and Design also develops a greater awareness of the role played by the visual arts in society and in history, broadening cultural horizons and individual expiriences.

  • Component 2: Design Assignment
  • Component 3:Critical and Historical Assignment
  • Component 4:Coursework Assignment


A & AS LEVEL:ART & DESIGN (9704)


The Art & Design sylabus conciders expression and communication. Students learn about Visual Perception and aesthetic expirience, and the way in which art and design creates a language of its own.

Most of the work for this syllabus is practical or studio based, so that students can develop their abilities of observation and analysis of the visual world, sensitivity, personal expression and imagination.
They also learn how to relate thier skills to an enhanced knowledge of thier own cultures, past and present, as well as an appreciation of practical design problems.

  • Component 1:Controlled Test
  • Component 2:Course Work
  • Component 3:Course Work
  • Component 4: Personal Study

A Level Candidates take all four components in the same Examination Session.They may choose to take components 1 & 2 at an earlier session than component 3 & 4 or take all components in the same session.

AS Level candidates take component 1 & 2 only.
