SUBJECTS OFFERED :

HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT

The department offers a wide range of subjects giving students a variety they can choose to meet their career prospects. All the subjects are available at both O and A-Levels. The department offers the following subjects: Business studies, Economics, Accounting, Geography, Sociology,  Psychology and, History.

ACCOUNTING

It deals with measurement, disclosure or provision of assurance about financial information that helps stakeholders (interested people) to make informed decisions.

It empowers the students with the knowledge and understanding of the principles of preparing the final accounts for individuals, profit making organizations, non-profit making organization and the government.

Accounting field is a stable and rewarding profession. One will become an integral part of business management team and a leader in organization decision making process.The subject is offered at both  O- level and A- level.  Examined by CIE


ECONOMICS

This is a social science that studies the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Economics aim to explain how economies and economics work and how economic agents interact. Economics is divided into Micro-economics: the economic behavior of agents( including individuals and firms,  consumers and producers) and Macro-economics addressing issues of unemployment, inflation, economic growth and monetary and fiscal policy for an entire economy.

The exam which is offered by Edexcel will comprise of one paper for O-LEVEL and C.I.E for AS and  A-level.

HISTORY 0470

O-LEVEL

The history syllabus starts in Grade 10. The students take the 20th Century history which looks at the events in the world between 1920 and 2000.

The students are exposed to the various causes of war and attempts to find peace. The students learn to appreciate the importance of international relations between different countries and how they can be improved.

“History is regarded as one of the most important disciplines in the national curriculum by many academics.” It is a traditional subject respected by universities/ colleges and employers .In addition, history offers the students an opportunity to understand the past and how it affects the present.

The students sit for three papers in Grade 11.

A-LEVEL  

The educational aims of Cambridge A & AS Level History are for candidates to gain historical knowledge,

Understanding and skills. These aims include:

  • developing an interest in the past and an appreciation of human endeavor
  • gaining a greater knowledge and understanding of historical periods or themes
  • gaining a greater awareness of historical concepts such as similarity and difference, change and continuity, cause and effect
  • appreciating the nature and diversity of historical sources available, and the methods used by historians
  • exploring a variety of approaches to different aspects of History and different interpretations of particular historical issues
  • thinking independently and making informed judgments on issues
  • developing empathy with people living in different places and at different times

History can be combined with subjects such as Psychology, Sociology, Literature and other humanities.

PSYCHOLOGY 9698

 

Industrial/organizational psychologists The study of psychology allows the students to appreciate human behavior. The syllabus starts in A level.

For the Advanced Subsidiary qualification;

 

Candidates take Papers 1 and 2. Both papers must be taken at the same exam session.

For the Advanced Level qualification;

 

Candidates take Papers 1, 2 and 3. Papers 1 and 2 must be taken at the same exam session, but Paper 3 may be taken at a later exam session

Advanced Level

The specialist choice options build on the work in the first part of the course and explore how all five core areas of psychology have been applied in a range of contexts.

 

Candidates are required to study how psychology is applied in two of the following areas:

  • Psychology and education
  • Psychology and health
  • Psychology and organisations
  • Psychology and environment
  • Psychology and abnormality
